Established in 1991 to honor the memory of Sylvia Chavez, a gifted and devoted MANA de San Diego volunteer, Sylvia understood higher education is a key to achieving equal participation in the social, educational and economic arenas. Selection is based on academic and non-academic criteria of the applicant including: grade point average, financial need, educational aspirations, leadership, and community involvement. This is a competitive scholarship program. Applicants must be a Latina, with a permanent residence in San Diego County or attending a San Diego County college or university; also open to undocumented/DACA/AB540 Latina students. All applicants must submit one reference form from someone who is knowledgeable of their educational goals, leadership, and perseverance. Please visit the scholarship's website for more information.
